... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 6 am Wednesday to
6 am CST Thursday...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 6 am Wednesday to
6 am CST Thursday.

* Timing: rain should begin changing over to freezing rain...
sleet and snow from northwest to southeast starting early
Wednesday morning. The changeover to snow will progress
southeastward throughout the day. The changeover to sleet and
snow is not expected to occur until Wednesday afternoon
generally south and east of the Ohio River. The snow will then
taper off from northwest to southeast Wednesday night.

* Main impact: by early Thursday morning... snowfall totals are
expected to range from four to six inches generally north and
west of a line from Mount Carmel Illinois to Perryville to Van
Buren to Doniphan Missouri. South and east of that line six to
eight inches are possible. An eight to ten inch swath of
snowfall is possible generally twenty-five miles either side of
a line from New Madrid Missouri to Calhoun Kentucky. As much as
one inch of sleet may fall prior to the snow... particularly
across western Kentucky and far southeast Missouri. It should be
noted that if freezing rain and sleet persist longer than
expected... snow amounts would not be as high.

* Other impacts: this much snow and sleet will produce treacherous
conditions and cause significant travel issues across the
region. Isolated power outages will also be possible. Confidence
is fairly high in the outcome of this storm system... so make
preparations now. Stay tuned for updates and possible
adjustments to snowfall totals.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of snow...
sleet... and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are also
possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.

... Patchy dense fog to continue into the late night hours...

Those traveling through the quad state region tonight will
continue to experience rapid changes in visibility due to areas of
dense fog.

Warm southerly breezes today have brought above normal
temperatures to the region. This warm air is moving over the
relatively cold ground. This cases the air near the surface to
become quite saturated... leading to the development of fog. The
fog will be locally dense at times... and may vary rapidly from
one location to another.

Be prepared for rapid changes in visibility while you are driving
on roadways. Make sure that you keep your headlights on
low beam in dense fog conditions. Slow down and leave plenty
of room between yourself and other drivers on the Road.
