... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Wednesday...
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 PM CST Wednesday.
* Timing: periodic snow will increase in coverage and intensity late this afternoon and early this evening. Snow... heavy at times... will continue through tonight. Snow may also mix with or change to sleet for a time tonight. Snow will taper off to scattered light snow showers or flurries Wednesday morning.
* Accumulations: snow totals are forecast to range from 6 to 12 inches... .though isolated higher amounts are possible. Anywhere sleet occurs for more than a short period of time... snow accumulations will be closer to the lower end of the forecast range.
* Misc hazards: strong easterly winds... possibly gusting over 40 mph... are expected this evening resulting in considerable blowing snow. In addition... isolated thunderstorms are possible tonight which could result in brief intense snowfall rates and locally higher totals. Strong west winds will develop during the day Wednesday... which if the snowfall overnight is fluffy enough... could result in severe blowing and drifting snow and near ground blizzard conditions in open areas.
* Impacts: travel conditions will likely deteriorate rapidly late this afternoon and evening... with most roads becoming snow covered Tuesday evening. Drifting snow may be a particular problem... especially along north to south routes on Wednesday.
