... Glacial Lake outburst from snow Glacier dammed lake flowing
into Kenai Lake and the Kenai River...

The snow Glacier dammed lake is releasing. Water levels on the
snow river are beginning to level off but gradually rising water
levels can be expected for another day or two. Water levels on
Kenai Lake and the Kenai River also are rising and are expected to
continue rising gradually for several days. No flooding is
expected at this time.

The snow river near Seward is currently at a stage of 13.4 ft.
Minor flood stage is at 16.0 ft. A crest on the snow river is
expected just under 14.0 ft later this week.

The Kenai River at Cooper Landing is currently at a stage of 11.3
ft. Minor flood stage is at 13.0 ft. The Kenai River at Cooper
Landing is not expected to reach minor flood stage.

Impacts: at current stage of 11.3 ft class iii Whitewater has
developed on the Kenai River below jims Landing. Based on the
current forecast... water may begin to impact portions of the
Primrose Road south of Kenai Lake beginning Friday morning.

A Glacier dammed lake release is a naturally occurring process. In
the headwaters of the snow river the snow Glacier impounds a lake.
Over time precipitation and melting glacial ice cause the lake
level to rise. When the lake is sufficiently filled it causes a
small part of the Glacier to lift... thus draining the lake. The
snow Glacier dammed lake typically drains every other fall.

Forecast estimates of peak stage and timing will be updated on the
Alaska-Pacific river forecast center website at
http://aprfc.Arh.NOAA.Gov
