Wind Chill Advisory
Issued: 5:17 PM CST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until 9 am CST
Saturday...

* wind chill indices will drop to 25 to 30 below zero by late
tonight... and continue into Saturday morning.

* The wind chills this low indicate that frostbite to exposed skin
can occur in as little as 20 minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will
combine to generate low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia
can occur if precautions are not taken. If going outdoors... be
sure to dress appropriately... including wearing a hat and gloves.

Special Statement
Issued: 3:52 PM CST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Fresh surge of cold air overspreading the region late this
afternoon...

A fresh surge of bitterly cold air was overspreading the area
late this afternoon. The surge was accompanied by gusty northwest
winds. The gusty winds were producing some drifting
snow... especially in open areas. Temperatures have already started
downward... and most areas are expected to drop to around or a few
degrees below zero by late evening. Wind chills across the area
were generally between 5 below and 15 below zero at 300 PM. They
will drop to 15 below to 25 below by midnight.

If you need to be outdoors late this afternoon or early this
evening... be sure to dress appropriately. Several layers of light
clothing provide better insulation from the cold than a single
heavy layer. Also be sure to wear a hat since a significant amount
of heat loss occurs through the head.

Anyone traveling across open areas should expect to encounter
some blowing and drifting snow... and reduced visibilities. The
drifting snow will likely result in slippery spots and possibly
some icy patches on the roads. Use extra caution.
