Thursday...
The Blizzard Warning is now in effect until 3 PM CST this
afternoon. A Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect until noon CST
Thursday.
Light snow and blowing snow will continue through the morning...
with the visibility frequently reduced to less than a quarter
mile. Conditions are expected to improve by early to mid afternoon...
although some drifting of snow will continue through the afternoon.
The combination of cold temperatures and winds gusting as high as
45 mph will also produce wind chill values as cold as 25 below
zero. The wind will decrease by afternoon and evening... but remain
strong enough to produce wind chill values of 20 to 30 below zero
through tonight into Thursday morning. This will only add to the
winter weather danger should you become stranded.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Blizzard Warning means severe winter weather conditions are
expected or occurring. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds
and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout
conditions... making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If
you must... have a winter survival kit with you. If you get
stranded... stay with your vehicle.
A Wind Chill Advisory is issued when a strong wind will combine
with cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for
exposed skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 20 degrees
below zero or colder for a period of several hours. Those
planning to venture outdoors should dress warmly... making sure
that all exposed skin is covered.
