Statement as of 8:36 PM CDT on August 28, 2015

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
eastern Hardin County in central Iowa...
Grundy County in central Iowa...

* until 830 PM CDT Saturday

* at 834 PM CDT... local law enforcement reported flooding still
occurring across portions of the area after 5 to 6 inches of rain
fell this afternoon. The heavy rain has weakened and shifted off
to the east and flood waters are starting to stabilize or recede.
However... flooding of low lying rural roads and in towns may
remain an issue through the overnight hours. Small streams and
rivers will also remain elevated through Saturday.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Eldora... Grundy Center... Reinbeck... dike... Conrad... Wellsburg...
Union... Steamboat Rock... Holland... New Providence... Stout...
Beaman... Whitten... Morrison... Owasa... Eldora Municipal Airport and
Pine Lake State Park.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding. If flooding is observed act quickly. Move up to
higher ground to escape flood waters. Do not stay in areas subject to
flooding when water begins rising.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.
