Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 11:36 PM CST Feb. 13, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 PM CST
Sunday...

* short term trends... snow will persist northeast of a Pocahontas
to Ames to Ottumwa line into the early morning hours. Snowfall
rates will generally be around one half inch an hour although
some heavier snowfall rates may briefly touch one inch per hour.
Increasing southeast winds will also begin to blow the snow
across Road surfaces as well. Some increase in areal coverage is
expected toward daybreak in western Iowa with this snow
spreading across much of central Iowa on Sunday morning.

* Storm total snow accumulations... snow amounts are forecast to
range from 2 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts. Highest
amounts will be in the northeast near Mason City and Waterloo.

* Winds/visibility... southeast at 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 30
mph. Visibilities as low as one quarter mile at times is
expected due to blowing snow and falling snow.

* Impacts... hazardous travel conditions are expected due to the
combination of snow and wind which will produce slick... snow
covered roads and limited visibilities.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

Any reports of snow accumulations are much appreciated and can be
relayed directly to the National Weather Service using twitter
