Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Friday, May 24, 2013.

Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

Subject:adjustment to services provided to the northern
Indiana hydrologic service area

On Monday... July 1 2013... the National Weather Service will
adjust the flood stage on the North Branch of the Elkhart
river near Cosperville. Forecast service will also be
intiated at this location during times of high water. The
NWS identifier for this location is cpei3.

After consultation with local officials... it was deemed the
existing flood stages associated with the river gauge on the
North Branch of the Elkhart river near Cosperville were not
representative of flooding impacts to local residents.
Flooding was occurring at lower river stages than the
current levels indicate. Therefore... all flood stages at
this location will be lowered two feet. Flood stage will now
be at 6 feet... moderate flood stage will be at 7 feet and
major flood stage will be 8 feet.

Also beginning on July 1... the National Weather Service will
begin issuing river forecasts for the North Branch of the
Elkhart river near Cosperville. These forecasts will be issued
during times when river levels at the Cosperville river gauge
are at or above 5 feet. Warnings will also be issued for this
location on an as needed basis.
