Showers and thunderstorms will move into the Plains, while also continuing across the East Coast on Friday. A low pressure system over the Rocky Mountains will persist on its eastward track and move into the Plains. Flow around this system will create northward flow, pulling abundant moisture and energy in from the Gulf of Mexico. This will allow for scattered showers and thunderstorms to develop across the Southern Plains again on Friday, spreading northward through the Central and Northern Plains. There is a slight chance that these storms will turn severe across northeastern Colorado, into western Kansas and Nebraska. Large hail and strong winds are likely in these areas, with possibly a tornado or two.

Meanwhile in the East, a trough of low pressure and associated cold front will slowly move eastward and offshore the East Coast on Friday. This system will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist from the Mid-Atlantic states through Maine. Severe thunderstorms are not likely in these areas, but periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds will persist as this system lingers over the Northeast through Friday night.

Out West, an area of low pressure continues spinning over the Pacific Northwest, maintaining onshore flow. This will bring more rain showers to Oregon and Washington, with snow showers possible at highest elevations.

... Frost advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am
EDT Saturday...

* temperatures... falling into the middle 30s. Readings will be a
little warmer near Lake Erie.

* Timing... widespread frost is expected to develop after
midnight as temperatures fall into the middle 30s.

* Impacts... frost is likely in sheltered areas and rural areas
where the wind becomes light. These conditions pose a threat
to tender vegetation.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A frost advisory is issued when frost is expected to develop
during the growing season. Those with agricultural interests in
the warned area are advised to harvest or protect tender
vegetation. Also... potted plants normally left outdoors should
be covered or brought inside away from the cold.

... Boating under the influence...

The following is a safe boating message from the National safe
boating Council and the National Weather Service for this years
National safe boating week may 17th through the 24th.

The effects of alcohol can be even more hazardous on the water
than on land. Boating under the influence affects judgement...
vision... balance... and coordination. These impairments can
increase the risk of being involved in a boating accident
for both passengers and boat operators. Alcohol is a
contributing factor in about a third of all recreational
boating fatalities.

It is illegal to operate any boat or watercraft while under
the influence of alcohol or drugs in every state. Penalties
can include fines... suspension... or revocation of your
drivers license and jail time.

Every boater needs to understand the risks of boating under
the influence of alcohol or drugs.
