The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Massachusetts
Maine
New Hampshire
eastern New York
Vermont

* effective this Tuesday afternoon and evening from 1220 PM until
800 PM EDT.

* Primary threats include...
scattered large hail and isolated very large hail events to 2
    inches in diameter possible
scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
a tornado or two possible

Summary... severe thunderstorms including multicell and some
supercell storms will continue to increase this afternoon across
eastern New York into much of New England. Severe hail and damaging
winds will be the primary concerns as storms steadily spread
eastward.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 90
statute miles north and south of a line from 15 miles north of
Albany New York to 50 miles northeast of Bangor Maine. For a

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.


Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 2 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60
knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450. Mean storm

Vermont...

At 1147 am EDT... a line of strong thunderstorms was along a line
extending from near Bolton to near Crown Point... and moving east at
35 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph and pea size hail are possible with these
storms.

Locations to be impacted include...
Barre... Montpelier... Bristol... Addison... Williston... Jericho...
Hinesburg... Stowe... Richmond... Hardwick... Berlin... ferrisburgh... East
Montpelier... Crown Point... Monkton... Huntington... Starksboro...
Middlesex... New Haven and Waitsfield.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms... and may
