Winter Storm Nacio, the third winter storm in five days to affect the Northeast, is bringing pockets of locally heavy snow to parts of the Ohio Valley, Appalachians and mid-Atlantic states Tuesday. Winter storm warnings are posted for parts of southern Pennsylvania, southern Ohio and the higher peaks of the Appalachians. Winter weather advisories, generally for lighter snow accumulations, stretch from northeast Alabama and far north Georgia to southern Connecticut and Long Island.

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST
Wednesday...

* periods of snow showers will continue through Wednesday
morning... before gradually diminishing.

* Light snow will accumulate through the morning commute with up
to 1 inch of accumulation from tonight into Wednesday morning.

* Roads and walkways will become slippery... snow covered and or
icy... especially those which are untreated as temperatures fall
into the teens. Localized heavy snow showers may also bring
greatly reduced visibility at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.

At 924 PM EST... a snow squall was along a line extending from demund
to near Taulbee to Jetts Creek... and moving southeast at 15 mph.

Locations impacted include...
Jackson... Salyersville... Beattyville... Campton... Booneville...
Mason... Simpson... Lewis... Fincastle... Sewell... Brownlow... Lane...
Vada... Ida may... St. Helens... Ned... Evanston... Vancleve... Koomer
Ridge campground and Howard creek.

This includes the following highways...
Bert T. Combs mountain Parkway between mile markers 37 and 76.
Kentucky Highway 80 in Knott County between mile markers 1 and 2.
Kentucky Highway 80 in Perry County between mile markers 13 and 15.

Expect a half of an inch or more of snow as these snow Showers Pass.
Visibilities will drop quickly to less than a quarter of a mile in
this squall.
