... Winter Storm Warning now in effect until 7 PM EST this
evening...

* locations... far southeast Massachusetts and southern Rhode
Island.

* Hazard types... heavy snow.

* Accumulations... total snow accumulation of 6 to 10 inches.

* Timing... periods of heavy snow will continue until it tapers off
later this evening.

* Impacts... hazardous travel is expected along with tree damage
and power outages given this is a wet snow.

* Winds... northwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning is issued when an average of 6 or more
inches of snow is expected in a 12 hour period... or for 8 or more
inches in a 24 hour period. Travel will be slow at best on well
treated surfaces... and quite difficult on any unplowed or
untreated surfaces.

... Patches of black ice possible overnight into tomorrow...

Temperatures are expected to drop rapidly this evening and
overnight... into the teens and low 20s. This will lead to rapid
freezing of untreated roadways and walkways... which could become
slippery with black ice.

Those commuting are urged to use caution and allow for extra time
as the ice may be difficult to see.
