Watches & Warnings

Wind Chill Advisory, Lake Effect Snow Watch
Issued: 3:29 AM EST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow watch in effect from this evening through
Saturday afternoon...
... Wind Chill Advisory in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am
EST Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh has issued a Wind
Chill Advisory... which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 am
EST Sunday. A lake effect snow watch has also been issued. This
lake effect snow watch is in effect from this evening through
Saturday afternoon.

* Wind chill... 10 below to 20 below tonight through Sunday
morning.

* Wind... northwest 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

* Impacts... frost bite and hypothermia are possible if
precautions are not taken.

* Snow accumulations... six or more inches are possible locally in
persistent lake effect bands.

* Snow beginning... light snow develops this afternoon.

* Period of most intense snow... intense lake effect snow showers
are possible overnight tonight and Saturday morning.

* Snow ending... Saturday evening.

* Impacts... snow will accumulate rapidly where lake effect snow
bands persist. Visibility will be sharply reduced.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that very cold air and strong winds
will combine to generate low wind chills. This will result in
frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken.
If you must venture outdoors... make sure you wear a hat and
gloves.

A lake effect snow watch means there is a potential for a large
amount of snow in only a few hours. Visibilities and depth of
snow can vary greatly... impacting travel significantly. Continue
to monitor the latest forecasts.
