Winter Storm Warning
Statement as of 3:57 AM CST on March 05, 2015

... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 PM CST this
afternoon...

A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 3 PM CST this
afternoon.

* Timing: moderate to occasionally heavy sleet and freezing rain is
expected early this morning before tapering off between late this
morning and early this afternoon.

* Accumulation: around one quarter inch of ice accumulation with
additional accumulation of sleet of up to one half inch.

* Impacts: hazardous travel conditions are likely with power
outages possible.

* Other impacts: windy conditions combined with the falling
temperatures will result in wind chill readings in the teens.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning means significant amounts of sleet and ice are
expected or occurring. Strong winds are also possible. This will make
travel very hazardous and could increase the potential for power
outages.

Special Statement
Statement as of 5:58 AM CST on March 05, 2015

... Winter storm causing significant impacts this morning ...

At 555 am widespread sleet... mixed at times with freezing
rain... over much of the arklamiss region northwest of a line from
Brookhaven... to Forest... to Columbus. Temperatures were near or
below freezing... and hazardous travel conditions were either
occurring or developing in these areas. Particularly poor travel
conditions were reported in areas from Jackson west and north.
Mdot reported icing on roads and bridges in all counties along and
northwest of a Jackson... to Louisville... to Columbus line.

Periods of sleet... heavy at times with a few rumbles of
thunder... will continue over these same areas for the next several
hours. Of particular concern is the area from southwest and west
of Vicksburg... through Vicksburg and western and northern parts of
the Jackson Metro area... north through the lower Delta and north
central Mississippi. Radar and weather models indicate that
heavier sleet... mixed with some freezing rain... will likely occur
over the next few hours in these areas. More rapid accumulation of
sleet and ice could occur here... resulting in particularly poor
travel conditions and possibly some power outages due to icing on
trees and powerlines.

Northwest of this area in southeast Arkansas and the upper
Delta... precipitation will taper off somewhat and be primarily a
mix of light sleet and snow. Farther southeast in the Brookhaven
to Meridian corridor... temperatures will slowly fall toward
freezing... and some icy spots may develop on bridges and
overpasses due to freezing rain and sleet.
