... Rain may mix with or change to sleet and freezing rain late
this evening or overnight...
Precipitation will develop this evening and continue overnight as
low pressure pushes through the mid Mississippi River valley. The
precipitation should begin as light rain across the midsouth... but
may mix with or change to freezing rain and sleet in the late
evening and overnight as the rain falls into cooling air at the
surface. The earliest surface temperatures would approach
freezing would be around 9 PM.
Locations along and north of Interstate 40 stand the best chance
of seeing this change over occur... but it may occur as far south
as the Tennessee/Mississippi State line if the evaporative cooling
is strong enough. Any freezing rain or sleet should change back to
rain by the Monday morning rush.
If the change over does occur tonight... ice accumulations should
be less than a few hundredths of an inch with sleet accumulations
less than a tenth of an inch. However... this may still produce
slippery spots on roadways... especially on bridges and overpasses.
