Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 5:36 AM MDT on May 22, 2015

... The Flood Advisory remains in effect until 900 am MDT for Fremont
County...

At 536 am MDT... Doppler radar indicated light to moderate rain
showers tracking across Fremont County that will cause minor
flooding. At least a half inch of rain has already fallen over much
of the area.

Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Florence... Royal Gorge... Canon City... Cotopaxi... Coaldale...
Penrose... Waugh Mountain... Texas Creek and hillside.

Additional rainfall of a quarter inch is possible over the area.
This additional rain... on top of saturated ground... and full
streams... will create minor flooding problems.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from rainfall will cause elevated levels on small
creeks and streams... and ponding of water in urban areas...
highways... streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage
areas and low lying spots.

Excessive runoff from rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks
and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not attempt to
travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
