Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, May 22, 2013.

After an active severe weather pattern during the beginning of the week, cooler and relatively calmer weather conditions will return to much of the Central U.S. on Wednesday as the trough of low pressure impacting the region moves to the East. As the trough progresses, an associated low pressure system will reorganize near southern Lake Michigan and will continue northeastward across Michigan toward the Lower Great Lakes through Wednesday evening. Expect rain showers to continue across the Upper Midwest into areas of the inland Northeast throughout this transition. Meanwhile, the system's associated cold front will trail southwestward from the low across the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys through the Lower Mississippi Valley and into the Southern Plains. Favorable energy and environmental conditions ahead of the cold front combined with ample moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will set the stage for shower and thunderstorm activity through the day. Areas just east of the advancing cold front will experience the heaviest amounts of precipitation, with areas of flooding and flash flooding possible in parts of eastern Texas and Louisiana. As the cold front continues eastward, areas of the Lower Great Lakes into the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys are at slight risk of severe thunderstorm development through the evening. Severe storms in these regions may become capable of producing damaging wind gusts, marginally severe hail, and even a few tornadoes during the evening hours.

Elsewhere, scattered showers and thunderstorms will remain possible along the East Coast and in the Florida Peninsula. Out West, a cold trough of low pressure will become anchored over the Pacific Northwest, bringing cool, below normal temperatures to the Pacific Northwest and California, as well as scattered precipitation to the Northwest.

Rating: EF-1
estimated peak wind: 100-110 mph
path length /statute/: 9.5 miles
path width /maximum/: 600 yards
fatalities: 0
injuries: 0

Start date: may 20 2013

start lat/lon: 36.8128 / -94.7701

End date: may 20 2013
end time: 642 PM CDT
end location: 0.5 se Seneca / Newton County / MO
end lat/lon: 36.8359 / -94.6062

Survey summary: this tornado damaged several houses... damaged
barns or outbuildings... and snapped or uprooted a number of trees.
It dissipated over the south side of Seneca Missouri after
snapping or uprooting several trees as it crossed the state line
and crossed Highway 43. Several eyewitnesses north of Wyandotte saw
two tornadoes approaching from the west and radar data as well as
damage patterns support that conclusion. In addition... there was
lots of evidence of straight-line wind damage south of the
tornado paths as the Bow echo storm surged east as it approached
the state line.

.Talala area tornado...

Rating: EF-1
estimated peak wind: 90-100 mph
path length /statute/: to be determined
path width /maximum/: to be determined
fatalities: 0

Survey summary: this tornado was photographed by a number of
witnesses and apparently remained over open country for much of
its lifecycle to the northwest of Talala. However... the survey
team was able to get a preliminary assessment on this area today
just before sunset and did find one home that had been hit...
probably toward the end of the tornado lifecycle. This home had
roof damage... windows broken out... chimney torn off the roof and a
nearby metal framed barn damaged with Bay doors blown out on both
sides. This may have been the final tornado of several produced by
the storm that first produced a tornado south of Avant in Osage
County. Further surveys will be done in this area on Wednesday and
photos and video from spotters and chasers will be reviewed to
help finalize this portion of the event.

Ef scale: the Enhanced Fujita scale classifies tornadoes into the
following categories.
