Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 7:05 PM CDT on July 29, 2015

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a

* small stream Flood Advisory for...
west central Cherokee County in northeastern Alabama...
northeastern Etowah County in northeastern Alabama...

* until 1000 PM CDT

* at 702 PM CDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause small stream flooding in the
advisory area. Up to two inches of rain has already fallen over
the last hour based on radar estimates .

* Some locations that may experience flooding include...
Leesburg... Sand Rock... Slackland... Cherokee rock Village... western
Weiss Lake... chesnut Bay resort... Weiss Dam... Wilsonia and Yellow
Creek falls. The Little River drainage basin has the best
potential for flooding over the next hour.

Additional rainfall of up to 1 inch is expected over the next hour.
This additional rain may cause flooding concerns... especially over
the Little River drainage basin.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams... as well as farm and country roads. Do not
attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.
