The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
Potter County in the Panhandle of Texas...
Randall County in the Panhandle of Texas...

* until 200 PM CDT

* at 1052 am CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists detected
an area of thunderstorms with very heavy rainfall over Randall
County. In addition... Doppler radar indicates 2 to as much as 4
inches of rain have fallen over parts of the warned area in the past
6 hours with additional heavy rain expected. Flash flooding is
likely to occur. While precipitation may taper off in some areas
during the warning period... it will take some time for any high
water to runoff.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
canyon... Amarillo... Umbarger...
Palo Duro Canyon... Lake Tanglewood... Buffalo Lake...
valley de Oro... Bushland... Timbercreek Canyon...

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

The low water crossings at Palo Duro Canyon are likely to be flooded
and extremely dangerous. Do not attempt to travel across flooded
roads. It only takes a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry
vehicles away. Campers and hikers should seek higher ground.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
Potter County in the Panhandle of Texas...
Randall County in the Panhandle of Texas...
southern Moore County in the Panhandle of Texas...

* until 1130 am CDT

* at 825 am CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists detected an
area of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall along a line extending
from 5 miles west of Lake Meredith to 8 miles north of Happy.
Doppler radar indicates 1 to 3 inches of rain have already fallen
over parts of the advisory area with additional heavy rain
expected. Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flooding
to occur... especially along small streams and near low water
crossings.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
canyon... Amarillo... Umbarger...
Palo Duro Canyon... Lake Tanglewood... Buffalo Lake...
valley de Oro... Bushland... Masterson...
Lake Meredith... four way... Timbercreek Canyon...

* Through late tonight.

* A widespread area of thunderstorms will move across the panhandles
this morning. Heavy rain is expected with these storms... with
rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches possible across the watch area.
This additional heavy rain on top of already saturated soils may
lead to flooding or flash flooding. Additional thunderstorms may
develop this afternoon and evening... which could lead to additional
flooding problems.

* Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

At 1100 am CDT... National Weather Service meteorologists detected a
strong thunderstorm 6 miles southeast of Palo Duro Canyon... or 20
miles east of canyon... moving northeast at 45 mph.

Hail up to the size of nickels and wind gusts up to 50 mph are
expected with this storm... along with heavy rain.

* Locations impacted include...
Claude... Panhandle... Wayside...
Washburn... Palo Duro Canyon... pantex...

If threatening weather approaches your area... take shelter in a
sturdy building.

Torrential rain... which may flood low lying areas such as ditches and
