Through early afternoon, showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage and intensity over interior sections of southwest Florida. Storms will initially focus over eastern Hendry and Glades County to Clewiston, Moore Haven and Lakeport, then spread west over The Everglades and Big Cypress areas. Strong wind gusts to 50 mph, frequent lightning, torrential downpours and small hail are possible with the stronger storms.

... Significant weather advisory for frequent to excessive lightning
and 45 to 55 mph winds for east central Collier County until 230 PM
EDT...

* at 147 PM EDT... Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm
over mile marker 60 on Alligator alley... or 21 miles north of
Monroe station... moving west at 15 mph. This storm will move along
Alligator alley between mile marker 60 and State Road 29.

* The primary impacts will be frequent to excessive lightning and
gusty winds of 45 to 55 mph. Lightning is the number one weather
related killer in Florida. Trees and open shelters offer no
protection. These winds can down small tree limbs and branches...
and blow around unsecured small objects. Seek shelter in a safe
building until the storm passes.

* Locations impacted include...
mile marker 60 on Alligator alley... Big Cypress National
Preserve... Big Cypress access areas off Alligator alley... Collier
County rest area on Alligator alley and intersection Alligator
alley and sr 839.
