High Surf Advisory
Statement as of 8:37 PM PDT on May 02, 2015

... High surf advisory remains in effect from 5 am Sunday to 11 PM
PDT Tuesday...

* surf... 6 to 10 feet with 12 foot sets along Orange and San
Diego County beaches from Oceanside northward. Local surf 5 to 8
feet possible between Point Loma and La Jolla.

* Timing... surf rising this evening... peaking Sunday into
Monday... lowering very slightly on Tuesday... then lowering more
significantly Wednesday into Thursday.

* Tides... highest tides near 5.8 feet around 9 PM each evening.
Lowest tides near -1 foot around 4 am each morning.

* Impacts... the large surf and powerful rip currents will
produce extremely dangerous swimming conditions. People
standing too close to the waves can be swept off their feet
and injured. Large waves can sweep people off of jetties and
waves may wash over sea walls. Moderate beach erosion likely.
Minor tidal flooding of vulnerable low-lying areas... such as
seal and sunset beaches... is possible during the times of
highest tide.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion. Swimmers are strongly encouraged not to enter the water.
