High Surf Advisory
Statement as of 6:00 AM PDT on May 05, 2015

... High surf advisory remains in effect until 11 PM PDT this
evening...

* surf... 5 to 8 foot surf with local 10 foot sets across favored
south facing beaches including Malibu... Zuma... and Palos
verdes. South facing coastal areas of Santa Catalina Island
will also be affected. Local surf of 4 to 6 feet will be
possible between Manhattan Beach and Santa Monica Beach.

* Timing... surf... peaking earlier today... will slowly subside
trough Tuesday evening.

* Tides... high tides near 3.6 feet will occur around noon... and
near 5.5 feet will occur 11 PM this evening.

* Impacts... the large surf and powerful rip currents will
produce extremely dangerous swimming conditions. People
standing too close to the waves can be swept off their feet
and injured. Large waves can sweep people off of jetties and
waves may wash over sea walls. Beach erosion is expected at
times of high tide. Longshore currents commonly occur when
waves approach the shoreline at an angle. They can be
particularly dangerous near a jetty or pier.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A high surf advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in
the advisory area... producing rip currents and localized beach
erosion.

Remember... if caught in a rip current... swim parallel to shore
until you are free of the powerful current. Always swim near a
lifeguard.
