Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 4:51 PM EST on December 01, 2015

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a

* Flood Warning for...
Gordon County in northwestern Georgia...
Murray County in northwestern Georgia...
Gilmer County in north central Georgia...
Union County in north central Georgia...
Walker County in northwestern Georgia...
Towns County in northeastern Georgia...
Catoosa County in northwestern Georgia...
northern Pickens County in north central Georgia...
Dade County in northwestern Georgia...
Chattooga County in northwestern Georgia...
Whitfield County in northwestern Georgia...
Fannin County in north central Georgia...
central Floyd County in northwestern Georgia...

* until 1045 am EST Wednesday

* at 445 PM EST... National Weather Service Doppler radar and
automated rain gauges indicated that heavy rain was falling over
the warned area. The runoff from the heavy rain may cause flooding
on numerous streams and small creeks by this evening. One to two
inches of rain have already fallen

Additional rainfall amounts of one to two inches are possible in the
warned area before ending by 1 PM EST Wednesday. The creeks and
rivers in the warned area will continue to rise throughout tonight.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of floods. It is very difficult at night to tell how much
water is on roads.

Do not attempt to cross water of unknown depth... on foot or in an
automobile. Do not drive around barricades... most flood deaths occur
in automobiles. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when water
begins rising.

If you see significant flooding... wait until after the storm has
passed... and then call the National Weather Service toll free at 1 8
6 6 7 6 3 4 4 6 6 or tweet US your report at nwsatlanta.

Areal Flood Watch
Statement as of 8:35 PM EST on December 01, 2015

... Flood Watch remains in effect through Wednesday evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* portions of north central Georgia... northeast Georgia and
northwest Georgia... including the following in north ...
central Georgia... Cherokee... Cobb... Dawson... DeKalb... Fannin...
Forsyth... Gilmer... Gwinnett... Hall... Lumpkin... north Fulton...
Pickens and Union. In northeast Georgia... banks... towns and
white. In northwest Georgia... Bartow... Catoosa... Chattooga...
Dade... Floyd... Gordon... Haralson... Murray... Paulding... Polk...
Walker and Whitfield.

* Through Wednesday evening

* the Flood Watch area is generally north of a line from
Buchanan through Atlanta and Lawrenceville to Homer. One to
two inches of rain has fallen across portions of far north
Georgia over the past two days. Additional rainfall amounts
around two inches can be expected... with isolated higher
amounts around three inches possible on the ridgelines of
north Georgia through Wednesday. Soils have also remained wet
across north Georgia from above average rainfall during the
first half of November.

* Moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall will have a high
runoff potential causing flooding of creeks... streams and
small rivers. Also... drainage issues can be expected during
this time of year due to Leaf debris clogging drains... leading
to enhanced localized street flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.
