Weather Summary
Weather Underground Forecast for Wednesday, June 19, 2013.

Wet and active weather will spread across the Northwest with threats of severe weather development on Wednesday. An upper low along the Pacific Northwest Coast will begin to shift inland on Wednesday, ushering ample moisture and energy inland across the Pacific Northwest, Northern Intermountain West and Northern Rockies. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorm activity to spread across these regions through the day, with areas of severe weather becoming possible in central and eastern Montana into northwestern North Dakota. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a slight risk of severe thunderstorm development for this area on Wednesday with primary threats of large hail and damaging wind gusts. In addition to severe storms, these areas will also see increased chance of flooding due to the slow moving nature of this system.

Elsewhere in the West, fire danger will run high across the Four Corners as gusty winds sweep across the region and a warm and dry airmass remains overhead. Red Flag Warnings are expected for this region as this weather setup will increase chances of wildfire development.

In the Plains, generally isolated showers and thunderstorms in the Southern High Plains will advance northeastward across the Central Plains, spanning into the Northern Plains and the Mid-Mississippi Valley by the evening.

In the East, showers will gradually taper off in the Northeast and upper Mid-Atlantic as cold fronts impacting the regions move offshore and high pressure moves overhead. The southern portion of a cold front extending across the Southeast will become nearly stationary as it nears the Gulf Coast. Expect showers and thunderstorm to continue in the southeastern corner of the nation and along the Gulf Coast.

Flash Flood Warning
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 5:02 PM EDT on June 19, 2013

... A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect until 615 PM EDT for
central Charleston County...

At 502 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar continued to
indicate showers and thunderstorms producing heavy rain located
along a line extending from Isle of Palms to Ravenel... or along a
line extending from Mount Pleasant to 14 miles southwest of
Middleton place... moving east at 10 mph.

As much as 2 to 4 inches of rainfall has already occurred in the
warned area and has resulted in flash flooding! An additional 1 to 2
inches of rain is possible through 615 PM and will worsen the
flooding conditions... especially in downtown Charleston where high
tide will occur around 507 PM.

Law enforcement and reports from social media indicate many flooded
roadways in parts of downtown Charleston... west Ashley... North
Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Many vehicles have become stranded in
flood waters. This is a potentially dangerous situation.

Flash flooding is expected in and around downtown Charleston...
Charleston... Hollywood... James Island... Johns Island... Meggett...
Mount Pleasant... Ravenel... Sullivans Island... Wadmalaw Island... west
Ashley... Charles Towne Landing and Isle of Palms.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

The majority of flood deaths are due to people driving into water of
unknown depth. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful enough to
sweep vehicles off the Road. Even modern sport utility vehicles are
vulnerable to flooding. To avoid the risk of death... find an
alternate Route if the Road is flooded.

Homes and businesses may begin to flood due to the torrential
rainfall. If you are in a low-lying area... be proactive. Raise
sensitive items off the ground before flooding begins.

High tide will inhibit runoff of heavy rain... flooding areas of poor
drainage in downtown Charleston. Areas most prone to flooding include
the Market... Crosstown... East Bay street and Morrison drive.

To report significant flooding... please contact the National Weather
Service in Charleston toll free at 1-888-383-2024 or email your
reports to chs.Skywarn@noaa.Gov. Reports can also be sent through
twitter using #wxreport.

Areal Flood Advisory
Mobile & Email Alerts Statement as of 3:41 PM EDT on June 19, 2013

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* Flood Advisory for minor flooding of poor drainage areas in...
south central Berkeley County in southeast South Carolina...
Charleston County in southeast South Carolina...
southeastern Dorchester County in southeast South Carolina...

* until 530 PM EDT

* at 340 PM EDT... National Weather Service Doppler radar indicated
widespread showers and thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall
across much of Charleston... south central Berkeley and
southeastern Dorchester counties. This area of showers and
thunderstorms is generally moving southeast around 15 mph and
will affect the Charleston metropolitan area for the start of
rush hour. In addition... high tide in downtown Charleston will
occur around 507 PM and could worsen the flooding situation in
parts of downtown Charleston.

Radar estimates rainfall rates as high as 1 to 2 inches per hour
with these showers and thunderstorms. Rainfall rates this high
could result in flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas
and cause significant ponding of water on roadways.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
downtown Charleston... Mount Pleasant... North Charleston... west
Ashley... Awendaw... Summerville... Daniel Island and Goose Creek.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Due to the heavy rainfall occurring within a few hours of high
tide... minor flooding is likely in coastal locations. Be especially
cautious when traveling through low-lying areas near the coast.

Heavy rain in downtown Charleston will result in nuisance flooding of
low-lying areas. Areas most prone to flooding include the Market...
Crosstown... East Bay street... and Morrison drive. Slow down when
traveling... allow extra distance between you and the vehicle ahead...
and do not drive into water of unknown depth.
