Areal Flood Advisory, Coastal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 5:23 AM EDT on August 31, 2015

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a

* Flood Advisory for minor flooding for poor drainage areas for...
Charleston County in southeastern South Carolina...
Berkeley County in southeastern South Carolina...
Dorchester County in southeastern South Carolina...

* until 645 am EDT

* at 520 am EDT... Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms with very
heavy rain moving across the Charleston tri-County region.
Torrential rainfall amounts occasionally exceeding 2 inches per
hour will produce significant standing water on area roads during
the Monday morning rush hour.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Charleston... North Charleston... Mount Pleasant... Summerville...
Goose Creek... Hanahan... Middleton place and downtown Charleston.

An additional 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected over the area
through early morning..and locally greater amounts are possible.
Minor flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas is likely.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

This heavy rainfall will result in significant ponding of water on
area roads and in low spots. Slow down to reduce the risk of
hydroplaning. If water covers the entire roadway or is flowing... find
another Route. The water is probably much deeper than it appears and
only one foot of water can stall a vehicle. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Heavy rain in downtown Charleston will result in nuisance flooding of
low-lying areas. Areas most prone to flooding include the Market...
Crosstown... East Bay street... and Morrison drive. Slow down when
traveling... allowing extra distance between you and the vehicle
ahead... and do not drive into water of unknown depth.

If torrential rainfall persists... a Flash Flood Warning could be
issued.

... Coastal Flood Advisory in effect from 8 am this morning to
noon EDT today...

The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued a coastal
Flood Advisory... which is in effect from 8 am this morning to
noon EDT today.

* Location... low-lying locations along and near the lower South
Carolina coast.

* Tide levels... around 7.1 feet mean lower low water.

* Timing... the risk for shallow coastal flooding will be the
highest within an hour either side of high tide. High tide will
occur at Charleston Harbor around 942 am and in Beaufort near
1050 am.

* Impacts... inundation of saltwater in and near low-lying
coastal areas could lead to some Road closures and flooding of
properties.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Be prepared for the possibility of Road closures and minor
flooding of properties. If travel is necessary... do not attempt
to drive through water of unknown depth.
