Flash Flood Watch
Statement as of 2:42 PM EDT on July 05, 2015

... Flash Flood Watch remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this
evening...

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of northeast Georgia and western North Carolina...
including the following areas... in northeast Georgia...
Habersham and Rabun. In western North Carolina... Graham...
Haywood... Macon... Madison... northern Jackson... southern
Jackson and Swain.

* Until 8 PM EDT this evening

* the threat for heavy rain producing showers and thunderstorms
will continue through early this evening. Rainfall rates in
excess of one inch per hour will be possible with any heavy
showers or thunderstorms over the extreme southern Appalachians
through early evening. This rainfall will affect locations
where the ground is already nearly saturated from recent rain.

* Rivers and streams in the southwest North Carolina mountains and
the extreme northeast Georgia mountains will rise with the
expected rainfall. Periods of heavy downpours with any
thunderstorms may cause rapid rises along streams and
creeks... and associated flash flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
