Watches & Warnings

Winter Weather Advisory, Winter Storm Watch
Issued: 4:17 AM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory now in effect until 7 am EST Tuesday...
... Winter Storm Watch now in effect from Tuesday morning through
Thursday morning...

* locations... Avery and Macon counties in North Carolina.

* Hazards... periods of snow and blowing snow through
tonight... particularly in higher elevations. Also... roads that
become wet this afternoon may freeze overnight... causing
slippery conditions. Accumulating snowfall will likely continue
through Wednesday night. In addition... northwest winds combined
with temperatures in the single digits to low teens may yield
wind chill values between minus 5 to minus 15 Wednesday and
Thursday mornings.

* Timing... snow showers will occur through today and
tonight... with the greatest potential for accumulation during
the afternoon and evening. Deep moisture and strengthening
northwest winds will still produce light snow showers at times through
Wednesday night.

* Accumulations... snow accumulation of generally 2 to 4
inches... approaching 5 inches on the highest ridges.

* Impacts... snow and snow packed roads will make travel
dangerous. Snow accumulation and strong gusty winds could
result in scattered power outages and downed trees.

* Temperatures... falling into the teens over many areas by early
Tuesday morning.

* Winds... northwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow
will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow
covered roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while
driving.
