Nowcast | as of 9:57 am EDT on August 23, 2014

The morning weather balloon data from the cape showed a slightly drier and more stable airmass than 24 hours ago. As a result...mostly sunny skies this morning and early afternoon will produce strong heating at the surface with temperatures reaching near 90 by noon in most locations...and mid 90s interior and much of Volusia County by 3 PM. Peak heat indices will reach 102 to 106 and could persist for several hours as storms will be slow to develop and limited in coverage when they do. A light offshore wind will turn onshore in a sea breeze by early afternoon providing some relief at the coast. Isolated showers and storms are expected to initially develop after 1 PM along the sea breeze in Volusia County...just inland from the coast. Movement will be toward the southwest at 10 to 15 mph...away from the coast and across the interior.
