... Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 7 PM this evening
to 7 PM EST Thursday...

* locations... Lawrence County Kentucky and portions of western
West Virginia

* hazard types... snow and sleet.

* Snow accumulations... 5 to 8 inches... with locally higher
amounts possible.

* Timing... rain will change to a period of sleet by 10 PM
tonight. The wintry mixture will transition to snow by
midnight. The snow... heavy at times... will continue through
the first half of Thursday.

* Impacts... untreated roads and sidewalks could become snow and
ice covered. Reduced visibilities... below one mile at times...
can be expected. Snow could cause downed tree limbs and power
outages.

* Temperatures... falling through the 20s overnight.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that will make travel dangerous. Only travel in an
emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra flashlight... food...
and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

* at 625 am EST rain and snow melt were causing strong rises on
streams and creeks. With more rain on the way... streams and creeks
should cause flooding. Many area streams and creeks will be
effected... including but not limited to the Middle Fork and Mill
Creek.

A Flood Warning means that flooding is imminent or has been reported.
All interested parties should take necessary precautions immediately.

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
