Coastal Hazard Statement
Statement as of 6:03 AM EDT on July 31, 2015

... High rip current risk in effect through Saturday morning...

The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay Ruskin has issued a
high rip current risk... which is in effect through Saturday
morning.

* Rip current timing... through Saturday morning and possibly
beyond.

* Rip current impacts... marine conditions support stronger or
more frequent rip currents. If caught in a rip current... do not
fight it by trying to swim back to shore. Try to get the
attention of lifeguards by calling out or waving your hands. If
you are able or if no help is available... swim parallel to the
beach until the current weakens... and then swim toward shore.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore... which occur most often at low spots or breaks in The
Sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as groins...
jetties and piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards and the beach
patrol. Pay attention to flags and posted signs.
