Issued: 8:01 AM EST Feb. 14, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to
noon EST Tuesday...

The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Winter
Storm Warning for a wintry mix of snow... sleet... and freezing rain
which is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to noon EST Tuesday.
The wind chill warning has been cancelled. The Winter Storm
Warning for snow... sleet... and ice means that significant
accumulations of winter precipitation are expected. Travel will
become dangerous to perhaps impossible in some areas. Only travel
in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra
flashlight... food... water... and a blanket in your vehicle in case
of an emergency. Winter Storm Watch has been replaced with a
Winter Storm Warning.

* Locations... foothills and Piedmont of northwest North Carolina
into Southside Virginia.

* Hazard types... snow tonight and Monday morning... becoming mixed
with and changing to sleet and freezing rain Monday afternoon
and Monday night... then changing to all rain by mid-morning
Tuesday.

* Accumulations... snow and sleet accumulation of 2 to 5 inches
along with ice accumulations up to 1/10 inch.

* Timing... snow developing this by mid-evening continuing into
Monday morning before changing to sleet and freezing rain early
Monday afternoon... freezing rain Monday night... and then
changing to all rain Tuesday morning.

* Impacts... hazardous travel due to snow and ice covered roads.

* Temperatures... teens this morning... rising into the 20s to lower
30s this afternoon... mid 20s to lower 30s Monday... rising into
the mid and upper 30s by Tuesday morning.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow... sleet... and ice means that
significant accumulations of winter precipitation are expected.
Travel will become dangerous to perhaps impossible in some areas.
Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel... keep an extra
flashlight... food... water... and a blanket in your vehicle in
case of an emergency.
