Statement as of 1:15 PM EDT on August 03, 2015

The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
northern and western Maine
New Hampshire
extreme northeast New York
Vermont

* effective this Monday afternoon and evening from 115 PM until
900 PM EDT.

* Primary threats include...
isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
isolated large hail events to 1.5 inches in diameter possible

Summary... thunderstorms are expected to continue to intensify along
a line from extreme eastern Quebec into northern VT... and track
eastward across the watch area this afternoon. A few strong to
severe storms are expected... with damaging wind gusts the main
threat.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch area is approximately along and 65
statute miles east and west of a line from 40 miles north
northeast of Caribou Maine to 20 miles south southwest of Rutland

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Remember... a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch
area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for
threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements
and possible warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally
do produce tornadoes.


Aviation... a few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft
to 1.5 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60
knots. A few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 450. Mean storm
