Coastal Flood Advisory
Issued: 8:33 PM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Advisory remains in effect until 2 am EST Tuesday...

* location... Plymouth County coast from Hull to Plymouth. North and east
facing shorelines of Cape Cod. North and east coasts of Nantucket including
Nantucket Harbor.

* Coastal flooding... minor with pockets of moderate coastal
flooding will occur around the time of the high tide near
midnight. There is also a possibility of minor coastal flooding
during the Tuesday late morning/midday high tide... especially on
Nantucket.

* Timing... within a couple of hours of the high tide around midnight or
between 10 PM and 2 am.

* Impacts... some vulnerable shore roads will likely be
flooded... perhaps up to a foot deep. In a few spots this could
be additional water onto water that has yet to drain from the
Monday morning high tide. Shorelines exposed to the open ocean
will likely experience considerable splashover and erosion from
large leftover swells. The beach erosion may be severe along
Outer Cape cod from Truro to Chatham and the east side of
Nantucket... including Siasconset.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Advisory is issued for minor coastal flooding of the most
vulnerable shore roads and/or basements due to the height of the storm tide or
wave splashover. The majority of roads remain passable with only isolated
closures. There is no significant threat to life and any impact on property is
minimal.

All tide heights are relative to mean lower low water.
Time of high total tides are approximate to the nearest hour.

Special Statement
Issued: 11:44 PM EST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Light snow will gradually taper off overnight but untreated
roads will remain slippery...

Light snow continued to fall across much of southern New England
late this evening. We should see most of this light snow taper
off from southwest to northeast overnight. The exception to that
will be along the immediate eastern Massachusetts
coast... especially from Cape Ann and coastal Plymouth County where
ocean effect snow showers may persist resulting in an additional
inch or two of snow.

Otherwise... the main story overnight will be that untreated roads
will be snow covered and slippery so motorists are urged to drive
with extra caution.
