Statement as of 4:07 PM EST on December 08, 2009 ... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 am to 9 am EST Wednesday... A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect from 4 am to 9 am EST Wednesday. This advisory covers north central and northeast Connecticut... northwest Rhode Island... and parts of the immediate Boston suburbs. Snow will develop between 4 am and 7 am and become briefly heavy. The snow will change to a short period of freezing rain... then all rain during mid morning. Snowfall should range from 2 to 6 inches in northern Connecticut with the heaviest in western Hartford County. Meanwhile... in northwest Rhode Island and near Boston amounts will be near an inch or possibly two. However... combined with brief icing and the wintry precipitation falling during the rush hour... the advisory has been issued. Heavy rain during midday or the afternoon is expected to cause poor drainage street flooding. Precautionary/preparedness actions... A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is forecast to develop in the affected areas... but accumulations are expected to be light. Any snow or ice would make driving and walking difficult... but not impossible... on untreated roadways and sidewalks. When temperatures are below freezing... motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop. |
