Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 10:34 AM CDT on September 01, 2015

The National Weather Service in League City has issued a

* Flood Advisory for...
east central Brazoria County in southeastern Texas...
southwestern Galveston County in southeastern Texas...

* until 1230 PM CDT

* at 1030 am CDT... Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
heavy rain due to thunderstorms. This is causing minor flooding in
the advisory area. Up to three inches of rain have already fallen.
One to three inch hourly rates are occurring in Jamaica
Beach... the Galveston causeway... and at sh 6 and Highway 45.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Galveston Island west end... Galveston causeway... Texas City... La
Marque... Santa Fe... Hitchcock... Galveston pier 21... Bayou Vista...
Jamaica Beach... Tiki Island... Liverpool... Pelican Island...
schlitterbahn... Galveston State Park... the strand... Scholes
Field... Port Bolivar... Moody Gardens... offatts bayou and Bolivar
Peninsula.

Total rainfall of two to four inches are expected over the area.
Additional rain will cause more severe flooding.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in
urban areas... highways... streets and underpasses as well as other
poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel
across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the
roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross
safely. Move to higher ground.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find alternate routes.
It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing water to carry vehicles
away.
