Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 3:09 PM AKDT on August 27, 2015

... The Flood Advisory remains in effect until 200 PM akdt Saturday
for the chena river above the Moose Creek dam as well as other
small streams in the area...

* between one and two inches of rain has fallen over the Fairbanks
uplands over the last 48 hours.

* Rainfall has caused the chena river and nearby streams to rise
above bankfull stage. They are expected to crest between now and
Friday afternoon.

* The chena river near Two Rivers is expected to crest to around
20.3 feet tonight... and 24.9 feet at the Moose Creek dam Friday
morning. This is above minor flood stage. The chena river at hunts
creeks is expected to crest at 16.7 feet midday Friday... which is
below minor flood stage.

* The chena river at Fairbanks is expected to remain below flood
stage. The US Army corps of engineers Alaska district anticipates
operating the Moose Creek dam beginning between Friday evening
August 28 to Saturday evening August 29. The Moose Creek dam will
be regulating the chena river so flows do not exceed 12 thousand
cubic feet per second in downtown Fairbanks.

* Expected impacts: water may be over the Road at mile 36.9 Chena
Hot Springs Road. There also may be water over the Stiles creek
shooting range and campground... rosehip campground... compeau
trailhead... and the Granite tors trailhead.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Recreational users should be prepared for a significant increase in
flow which may cause levels to rise out of bank in places. Watch for
an increase in logs and other debris in the river. Additionally... an
increase in the level of groundwater table is expected.

A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated... or
ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads. Find
alternate routes. It takes only a few inches of swiftly flowing
water to carry vehicles away.
