Areal Flood Advisory, High Surf Warning
Statement as of 4:08 PM HST on August 31, 2015

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 700 PM HST

* at 354 PM HST... radar showed slow moving areas of heavy showers
and thunderstorms across The Big Island. Persistent heavy showers
continue upslope of Hilo and in puna... and recent heavy showers
have developed along leeward slopes from Captain Cook to Kawaihae.

* Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to
Mauna Kea Summit... Waikoloa Village... Waikoloa beach resort...
Waikii... Saddle Road Junction... Puuanahulu... Puako... Keauhou and
Holualoa.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.

This Flood Advisory replaces the previously issued advisory that was
in effect for portions of the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County.

This advisory may need to be extended beyond 700 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

346 PM HST Mon Aug 31 2015

... High surf warning now in effect until 6 am HST Wednesday...

The high surf warning is now in effect until 6 am HST Wednesday.

* Surf... along east facing shores... 12 to 18 feet into Tuesday.

* Timing... peaking tonight and early Tuesday. The large surf
will be reinforced on Wednesday by swell from distant Hurricane
Jimena. Elevated surf will persist through at least the weekend.

* Impacts... high... expect ocean water occasionally sweeping across
portions of beaches... very strong breaking waves and strong
longshore and rip currents. Breaking waves may occasionally
impact harbors making navigating The Harbor channel dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

These dangerous conditions mean that only highly experienced
persons should enter the water. Inexperienced persons should
remain off beaches and adjacent beachfront areas. Large breaking
surf... significant shorebreak... and dangerous currents make
entering the water very hazardous. Anyone entering the water
could face significant injury or death.
