1966 -- 50 years ago: Final plans for the May 21 observance of 1966 Armed Forces Day at the Rock Island Arsenal now are under way. The parade will get begin at 1 p.m. May 21. The Arsenal gates will be opened to the public at noon that day.
1991 -- 25 years ago: Sherrard School District officials are scrambling for answers after 197 student, many of whom complained of nausea, were absent from the junior and senior high school Wednesday. The school typically has 35 absentee students. Because of the unusually high total on Wednesday, JoAnn Watson, school nurse, contacted the Mercer County Health Department, which in turn notified the Rock Island County Health Department.
