1866 -- 150 years ago: J. & M. Guettel, two doors west of Rock Island House, have received their new stock of spring and summer dry goods.
1891 -- 125 years ago: In answer to the call of County Clerk Kohler, the township assessors of the county met this morning at the courthouse, the first time in history that all were present at such a meeting.
1916 -- 100 years ago: According to the monthly report of Charles C. Campbell, Rock Island County crop expert, fruit in this area is believed to have been badly damaged by the severe winter weather.
1941 -- 75 years ago: Rabbi E. Louis Nilmand, executive director of the Tri-City Jewish Center since September 1937, today announced his resignation from the post.
1966 -- 50 years ago: Alleman High School's search for two head coaches ended today. The Rev. John O'Conner, principal, announced this morning that Don George, an Alleman graduate and former coach at the school, will be head football coach and former Davenport High School and University of Iowa wrestling star Simon Roberts, of Davenport, will be the head mat coach.
