Wind Chill Advisory
Issued: 5:17 PM CST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Wind Chill Advisory remains in effect from midnight tonight to
9 am CST Saturday...

* wind chill indices will drop to 20 to 25 below zero by late
tonight... and continue into Saturday morning.

* The wind chills this low indicate that frostbite to exposed skin
can occur in as little as 20 to 30 minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Chill Advisory means that cold air and the wind will
combine to generate low wind chills. Frostbite and hypothermia
can occur if precautions are not taken. If going outdoors... be
sure to dress appropriately... including wearing a hat and gloves.

Special Statement
Issued: 6:04 PM CST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Fresh surge of cold air overspreading the region...

A fresh surge of bitterly cold air was overspreading the area
this evening. The surge was accompanied by gusty northwest winds.
The gusty winds were producing some drifting snow... especially in
open areas.

Temperatures will continue downward this evening with most areas
are expected to drop to around or a few degrees below zero by late
evening. Wind chills across the area were generally between 10
below and 20 below zero at 600 PM. Although winds will ease a bit
during the evening... the fall in temperatures is expected to
offset that... and result in wind chills of 15 below to 25 below
zero by midnight.

If you need to be outdoors this evening... be sure to dress
appropriately. Several layers of light clothing provide better
insulation from the cold than a single heavy layer. Also be sure
to wear a hat since a significant amount of heat loss occurs
through the head.

Anyone traveling across open areas should expect to encounter
some blowing and drifting snow... and reduced visibilities. The
drifting snow will likely result in slippery spots and possibly
some icy patches on the roads. Use extra caution.
