Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 6:08 PM CST Feb. 8, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight CST
tonight...
... Blizzard Warning will expire at 6 PM CST this evening...

* short term trends... conditions marginally improving this
evening. Visibilities will decrease in intermittent snow showers
with strong gusty northwest winds. The combination of strong
wind and falling snow will continue to produce blowing and
drifting snow into the evening even though widespread blizzard
conditions are no longer anticipated.

* Winds/visibility... northwest winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 40
mph. Visibility will be reduced to below a mile at times... and
spotty areas down to near one quarter mile in rural open areas.

* Impacts... travel is not advised over portions of northern Iowa
due to considerable blowing snow and restricted visibilities.
Numerous accidents have been reported along Interstate 35
between Ames and Clear Lake. At this time the entire Interstate
is shut down along this stretch. Drifting snow will also cause
slick roads and dangerous travel. Conditions may change
rapidly... even across individual counties. Gusty winds may also
affect driving of low profile vehicles and loft light weight
objects through the evening hours.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow and blowing snow means that
periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be
prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities... and
use caution while driving especially in open areas.

Any reports of blowing snow and reduced visibility are much
appreciated and can be relayed directly to the National Weather
Service using twitter handle NWS Des Moines... hashtag nwsdmx or
Post to the NWS Des Moines facebook Page.
