Watches & Warnings

Lake Effect Snow Warning
Issued: 8:47 PM EST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 7 am EST
Saturday...

Hazardous weather...

* moderate lake effect snow will continue through tonight mainly for
   locations east of Harvey.

* Winds near Lake Superior will continue to gust as high as 35 mph
east of Marquette through this evening before gradually
diminishing late tonight. This will continue to lead to white-out
conditions along M-28 east of Marquette through this evening. Away
from Lake Superior... patchy blowing snow is expected with winds
   gusting to 20 mph.

* Additional snow accumulations through tonight are expected to be
between 2 and 4 inches for locations east of a line from Harvey to
Carlshend. The rest of northwest and eastern Marquette County will
see additional accumulations of 1 to 2 inches... with less than an
inch expected south of a line from Champion to Ishpeming and
   Gwinn.

* Wind chill readings will be as low as 25 below zero through tonight.

Impacts...

* blowing and drifting snow continue to lead to very dangerous
travel conditions tonight. Highway M-28 remains closed between
kawbawgam Road east of Harvey and Munising. If you become
stranded... you will also have to face bitterly cold wind chills.
Avoid travel along US-41 and M-28 east of Marquette if possible.

* Wind chill values to 25 below zero can lead to frost bite on
exposed skin in as little as 15 minutes.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

* a lake effect snow warning means significant amounts of lake
effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous and
   difficult.
