Watches & Warnings

Lake Effect Snow Warning
Issued: 2:46 AM EST Feb. 12, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect snow warning in effect from 4 PM this afternoon to
10 PM EST Saturday...

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued a lake
effect snow warning... which is in effect from 4 PM this afternoon
to 10 PM EST Saturday. The lake effect snow watch is no longer in
effect.

* Accumulations... an inch or two of snow is possible by early
evening with an additional 6 to 8 inches of snow tonight where
the stronger bands set up. There will be a lot of variability in
snowfall amounts. An additional 3 to 6 inches is possible on
Saturday. A few locations could see a total of 18 inches or
more of snow by Saturday evening.

* Timing... a burst of snow will accompany the passage of a cold
front late this afternoon. Lake effect snow bands will develop
behind the front and be heavy at times tonight. The snow will
continue into Saturday before gradually diminishing Saturday
night.

* Impacts... snow covered roads and reduced visibility during
heavier snow showers and squalls.

* Winds... west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.

* Temperatures... air temperatures from 2 below to 20 above zero.
Winds chills will fall below minus 10 this evening. Dangerous
wind chills are then expected to continue through Sunday
morning. A Wind Chill Advisory or warning will likely be needed
once the lake effect snow ends.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to dry weather just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio
for further details or updates.
