Winter Weather Advisory
Issued: 6:59 PM CST Feb. 9, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 10 am EST
/9 am CST/ Thursday...

Hazardous weather...

* lake effect snow showers will increase in intensity late
   evening through Wednesday morning.

* Heaviest snowfall is expected late tonight into Wednesday
afternoon. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour in the
strongest snowbands with sudden reduction in visibilities to
near zero at times. The morning commute on Wednesday may be
adversely affected by bands of heavier lake effect snow showers
   and reduced visibilities.

* Blowing and minor drifting of snow is expected tonight and
   Wednesday.

* Wind chill temperatures will range from 5 below to 5 above
   zero tonight through Thursday morning.

* Multiple day snow accumulations will be highly variable.
Highest amounts will be in Berrien and Cass counties in
Michigan... and northeast LaPorte and northern Saint Joseph
counties in Indiana with 6 to 12 inches of storm total
accumulation expected by late Thursday morning.

Impacts...

* roads will be snow covered... slick and hazardous for a long
duration. In addition... low visibilities in lake effect snow
bands will result in difficult and dangerous travel within
the advisory area. Some major roads that will be impacted
include i94... the Indiana toll Road... and routes 31... 20...
    and 6.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory for lake effect snow and blowing snow
means that visibilities will be limited due to a combination of
falling and blowing snow. Use caution when traveling... especially
in open areas.

Special Statement
Issued: 12:48 AM EST Feb. 10, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Moderate to locally lake effect snow showers will affect
northeastern St. Joseph... Elkhart... southeastern Berrien and
southern Cass counties...

At 1243 am EST... a intense band of lake effect snow showers was
located from near Bridgman southeast to Niles and west of Simonton
Lake.

Locations impacted include...
Elkhart... Mishawaka... Goshen... Niles... Buchanan... Georgetown...
Simonton Lake... Dunlap... Granger... Fair Plain... Middlebury...
Osceola... Bridgman... Berrien Springs... Bristol... Edwardsburg...
Stevensville... Millersburg... Roseland and Shorewood-Tower
Hills-Harbert.

This includes the following highways...
Interstate 80 in Indiana between mile markers 77 and 108.
Interstate 94 in Michigan between mile markers 12 and 27.

This band was slowly dropping south and will likely settle
acrosssouthwestern portions of Berrien County into northern St.
Joseph County Indiana along the Indiana toll Road after 1 am EST.
Motorists will encounter rapidly changing visibilities and
hazardousdriving condition driving near and through this band.

Use extra caution if you must travel into or through this dangerous
snow squall. Rapid changes in visibility and potentially slick roads
are likely to lead to accidents. Consider delaying travel until the
squall passes your location.
