Areal Flood Advisory
Statement as of 4:37 PM EDT on August 30, 2015

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a

* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
southeastern Lee County in central South Carolina...
Sumter County in central South Carolina...

* until 730 PM EDT

* at 430 PM EDT... Doppler radar indicated heavy rain that will cause
Urban and Small Stream flooding in the advisory area. Up to four
inches of rain have already fallen. The heaviest rain has fallen
across the southern portion of Sumter County near the communities
of Privateer... Pinewood... Brogdon and Britton. Rainfall amounts of
3 to 4 inches have fallen very quickly in this area. At times
rainfall rates have ranged from 3 to 6 inches per hour. This will
produce rises on area streams such as: brush branch... pocalla
creek... Cane Savannah creek and nasty branch. An additional inch
of rain is possible in these areas. This will also produce ponding
of water on roadways and in urban areas.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Sumter... South Sumter... Millwood... Oakland... Mulberry...
Mayesville... Pinewood... Lynchburg... Oswego... Cane Savannah...
Wedgewood... Shiloh... Lakewood... east Sumter... Privateer...
Stateburg... Cherryvale and Dalzell.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Most flood deaths occur in automobiles. Never drive your vehicle into
areas where the water covers the roadway. Flood waters are usually
deeper than they appear. Just one foot of flowing water is powerful
enough to sweep vehicles off the Road. When encountering flooded
roads make the smart choice... turn around... dont drown.
