Issued: 2:44 PM EST Feb. 13, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Winter Storm Watch in effect from late Sunday night through
Monday evening...

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a
Winter Storm Watch... which is in effect from late Sunday night
through Monday evening.

* Locations... northeast and northcentral Georgia... mainly east and
north of a line from Chatsworth... to Canton... to
Lawrenceville... to Danielsville.

* Hazard types... a mix of rain... freezing rain and snow.

* Accumulations... 1 to 2 inches of snow... mainly in the higher
elevations. Up to 0.25 inch of ice with isolated areas receiving
as much as a third of an inch of ice.

* Timing... a mix of rain... freezing rain and snow will begin late
Sunday night across northeast Georgia. This mix will transition
to a mix of rain and freezing rain by late morning on Monday.
The mix of rain and freezing rain will continue through Monday
afternoon... slowly transitioning to all rain by early Monday
evening.

* Impacts... due to the snow and ice accumulations... roads will
become extremely hazardous. The weight of ice on trees will
bring down branches and some weaker trees. Power lines could
also come down due to the weight of the ice.

* Temperatures... will fall into the mid 20s to the lower 30s
across northeast Georgia Sunday night... rising into the mid 20s
to low to mid 30s by noon on Monday... and rising into the mid
30s by late Monday afternoon.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Watch means there is a potential for significant
snow... sleet... or ice accumulations that may impact travel.
Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.

Now is the time to prepare for this winter storm. Be sure to buy
non-perishable foods. Make contingency plans if you plan on
traveling during this period. If you can change your travel
plans... do so before the event starts. Now is the time to plan.
Do not wait for the warning!
