Coastal Flood Warning
Issued: 4:06 AM EST Feb. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect from 10 am this
morning to 1 PM EST Monday...

* location... areas adjacent to the southern portion of the Pamlico
Sound including locations from Club Foot Creek east to Cedar
Island. In addition... significant coastal flooding is possible
for areas that are located adjacent to Core Sound and the Bogue
Sound drainage areas including Core Banks... Atlantic Beach...
Beaufort and Morehead City.

* Coastal flooding... water level rises of 3 to 5 feet above
normal possible for areas adjacent to the Pamlico Sound. Water
levels rises of 2 to 4 feet above normal in the core and Bogue
sounds.

* Timing... the flood threat for the entire area will be greatest
from late this morning through Monday morning. For areas
adjacent to the Pamlico Sound the flooding is expected to peak
tonight. For locations in the Bogue Sound drainage area the
Soundside flooding is forecast to peak with high tide late
Monday morning.

* Impacts... significant sound side flooding could result in water
across Highway 12 making it impassable in the vicinity of Cedar
Island. Secondary roads and properties adjacent to the southern
Pamlico Sound and its tidal creeks could be affected by high
water.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A coastal Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or
imminent. Coastal residents in the warned area should be alert
for rising water... and take appropriate action to protect life
and property.





High Wind Warning
Issued: 4:00 AM EST Feb. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... High Wind Warning remains in effect from 9 am this morning to
4 am EST Monday...

* winds... north 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph... highest
across the beaches and downeast.

* Timing... through tonight.

* Impacts... sporadic power outages are possible due to the
saturated soils from recent rainfall making trees more
susceptible to falling. Strong winds will blow around loose
objects and create adverse driving conditions for high profile
vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected
or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts
of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

... Gusty winds to increase through this evening...

Winds have increased along the immediate coast line late this
morning. As this low pressure system continues to strengthen and
move near eastern North Carolina... winds will increase from the
north 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 to 60 mph... the highest
across the beaches and downeast, Carteret County.

These winds in combination with the saturated ground may down a
few trees or power lines. Additionally... driving high profile
vehicles could become difficult. Winds will ease late tonight and
the strongest winds should come to and end before midnight.
