Areal Flood Watch
Issued: 6:01 PM EST Feb. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Flood Watch remains in effect until 10 PM EST this evening...

The Flood Watch continues for

* a portion of southeast North Carolina... including the
following areas... coastal Brunswick... coastal New Hanover...
coastal Pender... Columbus... inland Brunswick... inland New
Hanover and inland Pender.

* Until 10 PM EST this evening

* periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected from an
intensifying storm system moving up the southeast U.S. Coast.
Due to recent heavy rainfall from several days ago... any new
rainfall additions could lead to flooding.

* Low-lying... poor drainage... ditches along roadways... near
streams and creeks... and prone locations such as intersections
all could easily flood ... resulting in possible life
threatening driving hazards.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current rainfall forecasts.

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible
flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be
prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Wind Advisory
Issued: 6:09 PM EST Feb. 7, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Wind Advisory remains in effect until 10 PM EST this evening...

* winds and timing... northwest winds at 25 to 35 mph with gusts of
35 to 45 mph. There will a diminishing trend from mid-evening
thru the night.

* Impacts... the grounds across the watch area remain saturated
from the recent heavy rainfall of late last week. As a result... poorly
rooted and weak trees could easily be blown down. Some power
outages are also possible from these strong winds. Motorists
need to remain alert especially when traveling across open
roadways... and bridges and overpasses.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Wind Advisory means that strong winds are expected. The strong
winds can make driving difficult... especially for high profile
vehicles. Use extra caution. Make sure light weight outside
furniture and garbage cans are properly secured.
