Statement as of 10:20 AM HST on August 31, 2015

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a

* Flood Advisory for the island of Kauai in Kauai County

* until 115 PM HST

* at 1012 am HST... rain gauges showed locally heavy showers falling
at rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour moving along the trade winds.
The gauge on the Hanalei river has been showing a rise above 7.5
ft... and streams will remain elevated from runoff through mid day.

* Other locations in the advisory include but are not limited to
Haena... Wainiha... Na Pali State Park... Moloaa... Kalalau Valley...
Princeville... Kokee State
Park... Kilauea... Kalihiwai... Anahola... and Hanalei.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams... drainage ditches and low lying areas prone
to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding... reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
Turn around... Don/T drown.


This advisory may need to be extended beyond 115 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6 PM HST Wednesday.

* Surf... along east facing shores... rising to 6 to 10 feet
tonight and Monday.

* Impacts... moderate... expect strong breaking waves... shore
break... and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming
difficult and dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Beachgoers... swimmers... and surfers should heed all advice given
by ocean safety officials and exercise caution. Boaters should
expect recreational surfers and body boarders utilizing Harbor
channels to access surfing areas.
