Watches & Warnings

Lake Effect Snow Advisory, Wind Chill Warning
Issued: 12:10 PM EST Feb. 13, 2016 – National Weather Service

... Lake effect Snow Advisory now in effect until 1 PM EST
Sunday...
... Wind chill warning remains in effect until 10 am EST Sunday...

* locations... Monroe... Wayne... northern Cayuga... and Oswego
counties. Greatest snow amounts from northeast Monroe County to
western Oswego County.

* Timing... the wind chill warning is in effect through late
Sunday morning. The lake effect Snow Advisory is in effect
through early Sunday afternoon.

* Accumulations... around 2 inches this afternoon... 2 to 4 inches
tonight... and an inch Sunday morning in persistent bands of
snow.

* Winds... northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph producing
blowing and drifting snow.

* Visibilities... less than a half mile at times.

* Wind chill values... as low as 30 below.

* Impacts... lake effect snow and blowing snow will result in
difficult travel at times with snow covered roads and greatly
reduced visibilities. In addition... wind chills and
temperatures will reach dangerously cold levels. The frigid
conditions could result in frozen pipes... and will quickly
lead to frostbite and hypothermia if you are not properly
dressed.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A wind chill warning is issued when a strong wind will combine
with cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for
exposed skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 25 degrees
below zero or colder for several hours. Those planning to venture
outdoors should use common sense and dress warmly.

In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow
in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will
be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in
Road and visibility conditions.
